TV presenter Kate Lawler has denied reports that she was caught in an aeroplane toilet with a male friend. Big Brother winner Katie Lawler was ticked off by an air steward after allegedly being caught in an aeroplane toilet with a male friend.
Passengers noticed the 29-year-old go into the cubicle with the man during a FlyBe flight from Guernsey to Gatwick. The couple spent several minutes together before an angry air steward banged on the door and asked them to go back to their seats.
Witnesses say Lawler, who has carved out a career as a nightclub DJ and radio presenter, emerged from the toilet 'giggling' with the unidentified male. The alleged incident occurred on Sunday during a morning flight after Kate had spent the previous evening playing to a crowd at a club on the Channel Island.
Passenger Emma Wilcockson said she saw Miss Lawler 'skulk' towards the toilet at the front of the plane shortly after take-off..
She said: 'Someone on the flight must have tipped off the cabin crew because one of the female crew went to knock on the door and get them out and then they came out giggling.'
Student Emma, from Brighton, said the incident followed an earlier altercation between Kate and airline staff in which she began shouting when she was refused permission to carry her record case as hand luggage. She said: 'I got to departures and caught the tail end of an argument Kate had been having with a member of staff working at the X-ray scanner. I then saw the lady at the scanner, who was standing there rather stunned. She said, "I'm only doing my job, I said her record case was too big and that she'd have to check it in and she went mad".'
A spokesman for FlyBe said it could not discuss specific incidents relating to individual passengers.
But he added: 'Flybe confirms that it does not encourage more than one person to use on-board facilities. Our staff are highly trained to swiftly and courteously stop any inappropriate behaviour displayed during any of its flights for the comfort and safety of its remaining passengers.'
Lawler's manager, Chris Barratt, dismissed the claims and said she would not have gone into the loo with a man because she is afraid of flying. He said: 'We find it highly amusing, especially the bit in the toilet because Kate is one of the most nervous flyers - she hardly gets out of her seat. 'It's not true and we are just having a good chuckle about it.'
