And the one-time hell-raiser – a close pal of the band’s wacky maracas player and Celebrity Big Brother winner Mark “Bez” Berry – showed his Madchester days are long gone.

Shaun, 47, looked almost respectable in blue suit, sober tie and centre-parted hair. In fact, the only concession to rock ’n’ roll was a pair of peculiar blue-tinted glasses as he walked down the aisle with bride Joanne. The couple, who have two children and have been together six years, had invited friends and relatives to St Charles RC Church in Swinton, near Manchester, for the christening of their 10-month-old daughter Lulu.

But they turned it into a double celebration by getting hitched straight afterwards at nearby Court House in Worsley in a civil ceremony. Shaun’s manager Warren Askew said: “The wedding came as quite a surprise to almost everyone – but it was a really lovely day.”
