The five-star Fota Island Resort has been handed over to a receiver acting for the state-owned bank in recent days, sources confirmed last night. But the hotel's marketing manager Seamus Leahy insisted it was 'business as usual' at the plush resort: 'We were profitable last year and we're profitable so far this year.'

He dismissed suggestions that couples who've booked weddings could face a battle over deposits: 'I can understand why some people might have jumped to that conclusion, but we're trading as normal.' The hotel was owned by construction giant the Fleming Group, which collapsed last week and is now in liquidation.
